There is something incredible about the bond between a Momma and her little man. All it takes is for him to look into her eyes, flash that sweet smile, and her heart just melts. And then, just to ensure that he has her completely wrapped around his finger, he dives in for a hug and gives the best tight squeeze he can give.
I have had the pleasure to photograph this Mom and her boy 3 times in the past few years, and each session has shown their incredible bond and it just seems to grow more and more each year. He just adores her, and his smile and happiness shows it all. She is his best friend, his support, his biggest fan and champion.
For each session, we chose a new location, first a park, then the beach and for the final session we met in a historical village. I love the benches, barns, brick walls and more to accent the gorgeous afternoon light. I have worked with so many wonderful and amazing clients over the years, and I was honored to have one more session with this pair before my relocation to Charlotte, NC. These guys have a special place in my heart.
This was one of my last portrait sessions in New Jersey before relocating to Charlotte, and it couldn't have been better. Just like our last session, which was held at the beach, the forecast for the day was supposed to be sunny, but changed on the morning of the session to be rainy during our afternoon time slot. It was going to be a game time decision. We initially decided on a location that was an hour from our homes. But as the session time grew closer, I could tell that we wouldn't make it there in time before the rain. But there was a gap in the radar just south of our location, and I was lucky enough to photograph at this exact park nearby just the day before. And so, being flexible, we adjusted our plans and the start time and met at our new location, and we got lucky with one solid hour of pure sunshine! And about 10 minutes into my drive home came the torrential, pouring rain.
So, how do you get an adorable image like this one? Just ask the little guy to tell his Mommy a secret, except in this case, he started to lick her ear and she couldn't stop laughing. The result - Perfection. This photographed received a Silver Award in the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) Second Half 2015 Image Competition.
