Charlotte, NC Sibling Photographer | National Sibling Day 2014

Siblings. They are instant best friends, biggest supporters, shoulders to cry on, and they will be a special part of almost all of your childhood memories. And yes, they are also the people you will likely fight with the most, but regardless of the fights, teasing, or competing, they are the people that will always be there for you when you need them. They will be in your biggest cheerleaders in life, and even your defenders should you ever need them.

There is just something amazing that comes with being and having a sibling, and it is definitely something to celebrate. It is unconditional and everlasting.

For National Sibling Day, I wanted to share some of my favorite photographs from recent years of siblings just being siblings. And I wanted to give a special thank you to my sibling, my big sister for always being there for me when I needed her.

Classic Charlotte, NC Fall Family Portraits

Fall seems like a distant memory especially after this past winter. Thankfully I have these warm photographs to remind me that winter will soon come to an end! As I look back at these images, I’m reminded that there is nothing better than family. Through thick and thin and for better or worse, your family is always with you. What a joy it was for me to be a part of this day, I got to witness and experience the true happiness of family.

I don’t know about you but I’m just about done with winter. We’ve had snow, the temps have been in the single digits and the holidays are over so I’d be very happy if we could just fast forward to spring. We are so close to it and I can’t wait!

That’s why I had to post these colorful, bright, cheerful photos of this beautiful family of 4! I can just feel this warm sunshine on my back, smell the green blades of grass and hear the sweet giggles of these two sisters. Oh spring time, you can’t come fast enough!

I’ve photographed this special family for several years and nothing gives me more joy than watching these brothers grow not only taller but closer! I’m so thankful that this family of four has allowed me to capture these special family moments year after year!

Photo sessions with babies can sometimes be unpredictable. We have to coordinate meals, snacks and sometimes naps! Some days you just never know what you’re going to get, but this sweet little girl was a true pro – she posed, giggled and laughed. We did photos indoor and outdoors, had wardrobe changes and even the dog looked picture perfect. Can’t get much better this! And I just can’t get enough of the beautiful dresses and headbands that her mother coordinated for this day! This little lady is truly pretty in pink (and purple too!)

Having an older sister is a gift – she’s a friend, a partner in crime, a teacher and sometimes a second mom. This big sister is not only a confident young lady but she has a fun, silly side which allows her to be that quintessential big sister. This younger brother is so lucky to have her to look up to and one day their roles will reverse and he’ll return the favor. Siblings, what a gift!

Delightful Waxhaw, NC Family Photography | Feet

Feet are funny! In those first few years they are so adorable and cute. I love how babies and toddlers are always fascinated by their feet but what makes me smile about these twins is how he seems more interested in his sister’s feet than his own! It was just instinct for him to grab his sister’s foot as soon as she kicked it forward. It speaks to the connection between them, and I really I hope that connection simply grows, as they grow up together.

Toddlers are special little people, they notice everything and are so easily amused by the littlest things. I love how the fall background enhances the warmth and love of this young family. This session reminds me of when my kids were toddlers, they were very much like this sweet girl and had to examine each and every leaf! We, too, would spend warm fall days taking long walks and creating special family memories.

Halloween is a time to together with your friends, dress up in costumes and get as much candy as you possibly can. Today the costumes are more elaborate and creative as ever, gone are days of clowns and witches – now you have kids dressed up as a bowl of spaghetti or a bag of groceries. But the one costume that has always been popular and will probably always be popular are your superheroes! Spiderman, Batman, and Superman – I think every boy dreams of having those super powers and there’s no better time to fulfill that dream than Halloween!

It is so important to teach our children the how lucky they are to live in the United States. We live in a place of opportunity and freedom. I doubt this little girl realizes or understands what our flag represents that but I love how her parents have embedded their patrioism in their family photos. I’d be very curious to see how the meaning of this photo changes for her as she grows up; something tells me our flag will be as important to her and it should be to all of us!

What struck me about her was her expression, it is so peaceful and angelic. I can already see her personality shining through. It’s true, when a child enters your life, everything changes! Sure there are 3 a.m. feedings and countless diaper changes but it’s all worth it and these photos capture the essence of a young family. I just love the tender moments they share together not only between the three of them but especially between mom and dad – you can feel the love and connection they share. I think it’s so important to remember where all the love started and this young couple certainly took that time to focus on that too!

What does the color “red” mean to you? For some it means love, for others it means fire or power, but for me it means “redhead” as in this sweet little boy! How cute is he? I just love how his red hair compliments the background and brings out the warm colors. I had such a fun time with this family – the kids played in the grass and traded leaves and we enjoyed the last few days of summer. It tickles my heart to see how much this big girl loves her lil’ brother, and you can just see how much he absolutely adores his big sister. And you can’t miss the last photo at the end – it’s one of my absolute favorite sibling photographs!

This sweet family of four is full of happiness and giggles! We spent this beautiful afternoon enjoying nature, smiling and lots of exploring. As I sat back watching this family interact with one another, I wondered what were they thinking about as they laughed and whispered in each other’s ear. What were these boys smiling about as they sat in the warm, green grass? I just love to see the awe and wonder in young faces ; it always reminds me that I need to appreciate and enjoy the little things in life!
